I totally loved THESE candlesticks when I saw them, and made quite a few for different spots in my house. Well, I may have gone a *little* overboard, and ended up with a couple leftover. I really wanted to find a way to use them, so with one alteration, I transformed this candlestick into a fun wooden pedestal and cake stand. I love it in my kitchen!

I removed the top piece, and replaced it with a piece of 3/4 inch MDF, cut to 12×12. I wanted it to be big enough to hold a 9 inch round cake, and still have a small border. I did paint it and sand it, but I did not stain it, since food would potentially be sitting on it.

There are so many ways you could use this pedestal!

  • cake stand (a piece of parchment or card board cut to the cake’s size could be placed directly underneath the cake)
  • cupcake stand–how cute would it be to place a 12×12 piece of coordinating scrapbook paper on top, for the cupcakes to sit on? Darling!
  • Place a basket or tray on top for fruit, or other items. I have mine sitting in the corner nook on my counter, and I love it!
  • Use them as serving pedestals, for bowls, plates, and any other serving dishes to be displayed. Try making three different sizes to add depth. So fun!
