I learned a few things along the way, and I can’t wait to make some more. I will definitely use more fabric, and make it more “ruffly”, with more folds. I didn’t cut a long enough piece, so I wasn’t able to make it as ruffly as I would have wanted it.
*Disclaimer*: I am in no way a seamstress, so if you are, please do not pay close attention to anything. :) Hopefully will understand my sewing explanations! The sewing pics are not great…I’m sorry! The light was weird in that room.
- 7/8 inch elastic
- sewing machine
- hot glue gun
1. Cut your elastic to fit head measurement, making it just a little smaller, since the elastic will stretch.
2. Cut your fabric to be 1/2-3/4 inch wider than your elastic, so there will be a little overhang on either side. Cut the length to be twice as long as the elastic–even a little more depending on how ruffly you want it.
3. Line your fabric up on top of the elastic, with the tops being even with each other, and it centered on the elastic. Sew down the middle of the fabric, adhering it to the elastic, making folds as you go, in order to create the ruffles.
5. Make a rolled fabric flower, and hot glue it to the headband.
Ta-da! You have a darling ruffled headband, perfect for little girls and their mommas!
