To help celebrate my baby boys’ first birthday this past week, I knew I had to make them these super simple, but adorable appliqued onesies. My intention was to sew them on, but considering the ratio of my sewing skills and the time I had to make them in, I opted for wonder under only.

There are two types of wonder under (or heat ‘n bond). One is more heavy duty–meant for non-sewing projects. The other is lighter, so you can sew over it after it has been applied. I have heard that wonder under is better for the sewing projects, since it’s less likely to gum up. You can purchase it at JoAnn’s, or similar sewing store.

If you’ve been afraid to try it, don’t be! It really is very easy to do, the instructions are clear, and the ideas are endless. If you’re looking for applique tips and patterns, check out THIS post by Char, over at Crap I’ve Made. I used her “1” pattern for mine, and you can find it HERE.

P.S. Can’t you tell how thrilled they were to get their picture taken? :)

P.P.S. I can’t believe they’re 1!! It has gone way too fast. *sigh*

  4. Yay twins! We have twin boys also, they're turning 2 next month!!! These are too cute, think I'll have to make a pair for our boys' bday.

  5. Oh jeez, could they be any cuter? sigh I've got a little red-headed boy myself. Too cute.

  6. How do you have twin one year olds, and still find so much time to craft! You are amazing! I love looking at your ideas!

  7. You help me realize there is creative life after twins. Our two little boys are two months old and man…. the creative juices stopped once they came into the picture and sucked away my brain. :D

I love that your guys are little red heads… we're pretty sure ours will be too.

    Cute birthday shirt idea!!
