Paper Sack Advent Calendar |

Paper Sack & Clothespin Advent Calendar

I {LOVE} advent calendars.  I think they are the perfect way to count down to Christmas, and an additional way to really enjoy the holiday season.  We have several at our house, and we use them all!  Whether we use books, candy, or fun family Christmas activities, the result is a pure delight in enjoying the best parts of the holiday.

This Christmas I've added another one, and it uses some of my most favorite things---brown paper sacks, twine and clothespins!  It is ridiculously easy to make, totally inexpensive (less than $7), and SO SO darling!!!

{fit friday with erica} HIIT: a surefire boredom buster!

Although the weather just may be cooling down into the 70's for all of you in the south for those of us in other places throughout the country it's beginning to freeze. It's dark when we wake up and dark when we eat dinner and it just doesn't make it very conducive to outdoor exercising. Whether it be unsafe, extreme weather, etc. if this time of year keeps you indoors for exercising you just may be fearing...
If you find yourself not willing to strap some TRAX onto your shoes, wear double layer socks, and a ski mask to venture outside into the snow and ice to try and workout - you have no need to fear - there are lots of things to do inside to continue your workout routine.

{simply you} week 1

Okay, you guys!  I'm so, SO excited to announce something brand new on Simply Kierste...

What is it, you ask?  It's the beginning of something very exciting...something that celebrates you, and your creativity. One of my most favorite things to receive in my inbox are e-mails from you that share your projects and pictures. There are so many great ideas out there, and they are for sharing!

So...I will be hosting a weekly link party (starting today), where you can share your creativity with all of us, and spread the inspiration around!  Share the news, grab a button, and tell everyone to come on over and link up! I can't WAIT to see what all your fabulous ideas, projects, and recipes!  I will also highlight the most viewed project, and my favorites the next week, so you will have a chance to be featured.

Handmade Cinnamon Ornaments |

Handmade Cinnamon Ornaments

I made these cinnamon ornaments for our first Christmas tree when we were first married, and I have absolutely loved them ever since.  There is something just so cozy about making handmade ornaments, in all their rustic and lovely imperfection.  Perhaps it's the old-fashioned girl in me that wishes I could sit in a log cabin, string popcorn garland, and hang these cinnamon ornaments on the tree I cut down in the woods.  This is my way of capturing a piece of that, and I love it!
