Do you want to wow your friends and family with a dessert that will knock their socks off?  These Chocolate Mousse Squares get rave reviews, recipe requests, and the occasional bowing at my feet.  :)  It's one of my most favorite recipes, and with summer upon us, this cold dessert is perfect for any gathering!

I'm just telling you right now...you WILL NOT want to stop eating these!  I only make them when I'm taking them somewhere, because I literally have no willpower when they're in my house. The chocolate mousse filling is so silky smooth, the Oreo crust adds an extra chocolate-y crunch, and the combination of the two is absolute perfection.  ENJOY!!!

Chocolate Mousse Squares
Recipe type: Dessert
Serves: 12
  • 12 Oreo cookies, crushed
  • ¼ c. butter, melted
  • 2-8 oz. packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 squares semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
  • 1 c. Cool Whip, thawed
  1. Mix crushed cookies and butter in a foil-lined 9 inch square pan. Press firmly onto bottom of pan to form a crust.
  2. Beat cream cheese in a large bowl with electric mixer on low speed until creamy. Gradually add milk, mixing well after each addition. Blend in chocolate (which has been melted according to package directions), then gently stir in whipped topping. Spoon mixture over crust, then sprinkle with extra Oreo cookie crumbles.
  3. Cover tightly with plastic wrap, then freeze at least 6 hours or overnight. Remove from freezer about 15-20 minutes before serving to soften slightly. Cut into squares to serve. Serve leftover dessert in the freezer. ENJOY!!!

  5. Hi Kierste

Just love your blog! So “jam-packed” with lovely ideas and scrummy recipes! I want to make the choc mousse bars but we don’t have Cool Whip here in South Africa – what can I use instead? Looking forward in hearing from you soon.

P.s I want to make them for a Farmers mkt, do they need to be kept refrigerated?

    Warm regards

    Kathy Dean

Hmmmm…I think you could try heavy whipping cream, that’s been whipped, and fold it in. You will need to keep them refrigerated–and even frozen–until 15 minutes before serving. Good luck!!! xo
