Christmas Mason Jar Gift Set

In addition to the in-store Michael's Pinterest party last weekend (and it was SO fun), I threw a Pinterest Party at my house this week for some of my friends, and we had a FABULOUS time!  I love the idea of getting together with friends for a party to create some of the things that you see on Pinterest...to not just pin, but make it! I, of course, am a huge advocate for DIY projects, so this is exciting to me. Plus...it's so much more fun to craft and create with friends!  For my party, I went with a DIY gift theme, and decided on one of my favorite gifts to give, with a Christmas spin...a Christmas Mason Jar Gift Set!

Homemade Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Cream

Our weather is finally starting to cool off, and I am in HEAVEN.  I've missed the crisp mornings and evenings so much since moving from Michigan, and so since the temps have gone lower, I am so happy. It also means that I start baking like crazy (why is it that the weather does that to me??), and thinking about some of our winter favorites. One of those that top the list is Homemade Hot Chocolate. I grew up with hot chocolate being homemade--I don't think I even knew what a packet of it was (what, you just add water??) until I was in high school or later.  I do use the packets sometimes now for convenience, but nothing beats the homemade version.

Dry Erase Chalkboard Chore Chart

I love chore charts for a bunch of reasons, but the whole key is in finding one that really works for you and your family.  Over the years I've tried several different types of charts--some I liked, others I didn't.  I don't like them to be complicated, or have a lot of moving parts--I know that for us it just doesn't work.  My favorite to date is the dry erase chore chart I made several years ago--but it desperately needed to be updated. I thought it would be really fun to make it chalkboard style, so I created a Dry Erase Chalkboard Chore Chart, and it's perfect!

{a thanksgiving tree}

I love Thanksgiving for so many reasons, and one of them is that it's such a great opportunity for me to help teach my children about gratitude.  We try to work on it all year long, but I love having a month to focus on giving thanks and all the blessings we've been given. One thing that we've always done through the month of November is share the things that we're grateful for, and this year we're doing that with our Thanksgiving tree!

{thanksgiving checklist}

I know, I know. It's not even Halloween yet, but the month of November is quickly approaching, and Thanksgiving is 5 short weeks away.  I love the whole holiday season, but it's also the most busy, with so many fun things to do and see, and I want to do them all!!  So...I'm a list girl. I love making lists, checking things off, and staying organized. I accomplish so much more when I have a list, and forget much less.  We have really good friends coming to stay with us for Thanksgiving, and we couldn't be more THRILLED!  We are going to have the best time, and I can't wait to see them. It does mean preparation ahead of time though, not only with getting the house ready, but preparing food ahead of time so we can make the most of our time together.  Thus...the Thanksgiving checklist.

How to Make Adhesive Labels With Your Silhouette Using Print & Cut

Some of my most favorite Silhouette products are the printable adhesive papers--they have white, kraft paper, clear--because there are so many fun options for labels and tags.  Christmas is quickly coming, and I always start in October with my planning and project list, so I can really enjoy the month of December with my family.  Christmas cards are one thing that can go out right after Thanksgiving, and I thought it would be fun to make some cute adhesive labels for the back of the envelopes.

Have you ever used the print & cut feature on your Silhouette?  I LOVE it.  It's so easy, and it's how you can get text and images on the labels you cut out. Think gift tags...address labels...envelope labels...and more! I'm going to share the tutorial for making circle labels, but you can do other shapes too!  If you have any questions at the end of it, please ask me--I'm happy to help!

Okay...open up your Silhouette software, and set it to 8.5 x 11, and a cutting mat--whatever size you are using. I use a 12 x 12 mat, as you can see on the screen.

A Nine Year Journey…Our Family’s Diabetes Story

Sometimes we experience life-defining moments that while we're right in the middle of them, we don't quite realize how much of an impact they will actually make on our lives.  Nine years ago this week I had such an experience, that forever changed not only my life, but my son's, and that of our whole family.

We had traveled to our hometown of St. George, UT, so my husband could run the St. George Marathon.  We only had Ryan at the time, who was 5 years old--almost 6.  It was typical of most vacations--too much good food, too many late nights, and a crazy schedule--so when Ryan was eating and drinking a lot, and going to the bathroom often, (and since he was fine otherwise), I just attributed them to the vacation. We came home, and what happened over the next few days is forever imprinted in my mind.

{simple fabric bunting}

 I love making buntings for every holiday, because I think they're one of the easiest and least expensive ways to dress up a mantel, bench, table, doorway, or window. I love to use burlap (you can see my burlap fall bunting HERE), but I also love to incorporate different colors using fabric.  This simple fabric bunting takes less than 15 minutes to make (seriously!!!), and adds a ton of charm to my front entry bench!

{photo gallery tips + a GIVEAWAY from cut it out frames}

I'm so excited that this day is finally here! I've had this whole project in the making for awhile, and this week it all came together and I LOVE it!  We got rid of our old bookcases before we moved here last year, and our books have been in storage ever since. We've had bookcases on our "build" list forever, and it was finally time for them to be top on the list!  I wanted them to only go about 1/2 to 2/3 up the wall, so I could have a photo gallery above them.  Needless to say, when Cut it Out Frames  sent me some darling frames to try, I was thrilled--they were absolutely PERFECT for my photo gallery. I have loved their frames forever, and always knew I wanted them in my home.
