I was trying to explain to one of my eight year old girls today about what a pay phone is.  Her first response was,  “I know, isn’t that the phone with the long curly thing on it?”. Ha! I think she ended up kind of knowing what I was talking about it, but I’ve been laughing about it all day.  She was also totally shocked to learn that there were no cell phones when I was her age, no iPhones to play games on, or computers to watch movies and play games on.  It seriously was one of the funniest conversations ever…and made me feel old.  ☺

Technology has come a long way since the days of pay phones, and our lives are now intertwined with products that can help make them easier. I’ve discovered one of those products, and I am so excited to tell you about it–it’s made a huge difference for our family.

I’ve always been a laptop girl–I’ve used one for years, and love them for many reasons. I’ve gone back and forth about getting a tablet too, because I like the features of both. Enter in the HP Pavilion x360, a touch convertible PC that transforms with a 360-degree hinge that easily converts from notebook mode to stand or tent mode, or to tablet mode, easily adapting to the way your family lives. When our family had the opportunity to try one out, I was so excited to see how it would work for us, and it has been a game changer!  It has quickly become a part of our everyday life for so many things, and my kids LOVE the “red computer”. I do too.  ☺

Yes, it’s a notebook and tablet, all in one!! It’s the perfect answer to my tablet/laptop dilemma, and more. It’s the laptop that doesn’t make you miss your tablet, and the tablet that doesn’t make you miss your laptop.

What do we use it for?  Everything!!!

My girls love doing their homework in the kitchen where I can help them while I make dinner, and the HP Pavilion x360 is easy to set up as a notebook up on the island to assist. My oldest son can use it to look up anything he needs to, type up his papers and then print them.  It’s been wonderful to have a mobile computer that can go from place to place in our home when we need it to.

Friday night is movie night at our house, and it’s a much anticipated event every single week. Put it in tent mode, and it’s perfect for snuggling up in bed to watch a favorite show.  It’s been fun to move our movie spot to different parts of the house, because we can!

Cooking and baking are both a big part of our family life, and it’s so convenient to either have it in notebook or tent mode to look up recipes for quick and easy reference. My boys love to “help” me make cookies, and their favorite job is licking the beaters.  Mine too.  ☺

We can’t forget the games.  ☺  If your kids are anything like mine, they LOVE to play games on the computer.  We fold the keyboard all the way under, and it becomes a tablet, with an easy touch screen.  The kids can play anywhere–on the couch, in the kitchen while I’m working, in the car while we’re traveling, in the doctor’s office while we’re waiting, or anywhere!

As you can see, it has totally streamlined our daily life. I personally can take it when I travel, and not have to either both a laptop and tablet, OR try and choose one over the other.  I can blog, read a book on Kindle, watch a movie on Netflix, answer e-mails, take photos, and so much more.  It works for our family, and it works for me…I’m so happy to have it!

Another HP product that goes hand-in-hand with the Pavilion x360 is the HP Envy 5530 e-All-in-One printer. It’s AWESOME.  It makes it easy to not only print from your home PC, but from your smartphone or tablet as well!  I wanted to print a document from my phone that was e-mailed to me, and it literally took 30 seconds to print. It was kind of life changing for me.  ☺ It was built for hobbies like scrapbooking and other creative arts and crafts projects, so I feel like it’s a really good fit for me. You can also print lab quality photos from your phone, and scan documents straight to your smartphone for sharing or storing, which I think is the coolest. Or…turn those photos into darling memory books by uploading them to Snapfish!

One of my favorite features though, is something I think is revolutionary- HP Instant Ink.  Can I tell you how many times I’ve gone to print something, and then realized I’m totally out of ink? UGH. It’s such a pain to either have to postpone the print job, or try to quickly figure something else out.  Well, HP Instant Ink changes that.  When you buy an eligible printer and connect it to the Internet, then you can enroll to receive ink automatically, BEFORE you run out!  The printer uses the internet to let HP know when you need more ink, and it gets it in the mail to you right away–all for a small monthly fee.  It’s based on pages printed, not cartridges used, so it’s actually more cost-effective.  They also include postage paid return envelopes, so you can recycle your old cartridges.  Seriously, this is genius.  They’ve thought of everything! I’m all signed up and I can’t wait to get my first cartridges in the mail!

So…these are all totally amazing products that our family has fallen in love with, and I’m delighted to tell you that I just might get to give away another HP Family Time Kit, which would include everything I’ve referenced in this post…so STAY TUNED!!!!  You don’t want to miss it!!!

  1. Is this tablet able to use Microsoft office??? I am currently searching for a laptop with the convenience of a tablet. I run an in-home daycare and I need to be able to record my attendance and meals using excel wherever I am at! I also want to have a computer that the sweet kiddo’s can also play on! Thank you for your input!
