Chocolate-Covered Peeps Pops

Okay, I admit it. I'm not a huge fan of Peeps, and they've never really been my favorite.  However...my kids love them, and so we usually have them around Easter, and today I had some out for another project I'm working on. At the same time my kids happened to be begging for the open bag of chocolate chips in the pantry, AND I had a bag of lollipop sticks on the counter that were ready to be put away. What happened next is what I'm calling kismet.  Chocolate-Covered Peeps Pops.

Why our kids have chores + an age-appropriate chores guideline

Ever since I posted my cleaning schedule and talked about my kids having their own chores, I've had a lot of comments, questions, and e-mails about our chores routine. It's been on my mind quite a bit lately too, because this year each of my six kids are turning ages where we can add a few more chores that they are able to do. We also moved from a larger home to a tiny apartment that we are living in while our new house is being built, and it's definitely required me to make a few changes, so I figured it was a good time to write out how our family handles chores for kids, and more importantly, why.

We start chores young at our house--they are are one of the most vital parts of our family structure, and not only keep our home running smoothly, but teach my kids life lessons on an ongoing basis.  There are many reasons for having our kids do chores, but there are six that we feel are the most important.

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies | simplykierste.com

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

My kids were clamoring for oatmeal cookies this week, and when they do, I usually make Oatmeal Scotchies.  When I realized we were out of butterscotch chips, I decided just to go ahead and use chocolate chips instead, and then I got a little crazy and added some peanut butter too.  Oh MY goodness!  The combination of chocolate and peanut butter is always delicious, and then when you throw in the hearty goodness of the oats, it's an absolute winning combination.

DIY FInances Ledger | free printables | simplykierste.com

DIY Finances Ledger

A couple of years ago I posted about the kitchen mini command center I made for our Texas home. One of the things that I mentioned was my bills and finances ledger. I've had so many e-mails and questions about it that I decided to give it its very own post!  Even though my command center has had to be modified since we moved, that finances ledger has remained the same.

I use this ledger almost every day. I pay the bills and handle the finances for our family, so I use it to stay organized and keep track of all of our financial information. My husband is also able to look at it whenever he wants to, and see exactly where we're at and what's going on--and find something quickly if I'm not at home.  I use it to track our savings, bills that are paid and need to be paid, receipts, checking account balance and receipts, flex spending, tax info, and a variety of other financial information. It works really, really well for us, and I'm excited to share it with you!

Lemon Oreo Truffles | simplykierste.com

Lemon Oreo Truffles

Have you tried the new Lemon Oreos?  Oh my goodness, they are SO yummy! I'm just slightly obsessed with all things lemon, so I was really excited to see them. My favorite way to eat Oreos is actually as an Oreo Truffle.  (Which if you haven't tried, you need to head straight to your to-do list and add it immediately.)  When I saw the new lemon flavor, I knew exactly what I wanted to make...Lemon Oreo Truffles. They did not disappoint! Dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with lemon zest, they're perfect for spring and Easter!

Bunny Bait Trail Mix

We're into snacks at our house.  There might be three main meals, but there are at least 42 other times in the day that my kids want to eat.  My baby (yes, she's almost two, but she's my baby!!) asks every 5 seconds for a "nack", and I pretty much always acquiesce.  If you saw her cute face, I bet you would too!  When the holidays come around, I love to do simple snacks for our own little celebration, and with Easter coming, that means it's time for our favorite Bunny Bait Trail Mix!
