Easy peanut butter cup brownies

I helped organize a cake auction fundraiser for our church youth group a few weeks ago, and few received some amazing cakes and pies to auction off.  There was one cake in particular that caught my son's eye from the very beginning--a peanut butter and chocolate cake topped with chopped Reese's PB cups and a chocolate ganache.  Unfortunately, despite battling long and hard, we lost the bid to another family. He was pretty sad, but to make him feel better, I told him I would recreate it for him. I decided Father's Day would be the perfect time to make it, because Reese's is my husband's absolute favorite candy, and I knew he would love it too.  I was right--it was a hit!

Keep your car smelling fresh with PERK!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of PERK. All opinions are 100% mine.

-----

I love getting into my car and having it smell really good.  It makes such a big difference to have a car air freshener that helps with all the smells of everyday life that filter into the car, like my boys, when they get in the car after a baseball game.  That's definitely not I want to be smelling!

So how do I get a great fresh-smelling car? I've been using PERK car air fresheners for over a year now, and I love them just as much now as I did in the beginning.  I was thrilled to hear that they have a brand new product that delivers the same consistent, high quality fragrance and still features their patent-pending StediScent™ technology. It's called the PERK Visor Wrap, and it clips discreetly onto the visor in your car!

They are seriously SO easy to use. They literally just slide right onto the visor of your car, and it features a specially contoured clip that grips, and doesn't interfere in any way with you using the visor as intended.

It won't spill or leak, and I love that it's not heavy or bulky--it's pretty sleek, and and the color is a great neutral gray color that doesn't stand out.  It's really quite perfect for a car air freshener, because it's right above the driver's nose, but is totally out of the way! The fragrances are yummy--not overbearing, and they come in a variety of awesome choices, including New Car, Golden Vanilla, and Caribbean Colada (which is the one in my car right now, and I love it!).

I'm so excited to announce we have a GIVEAWAY today!  One lucky reader is going to win a PERK Prize basket, including:

  • a.     6 month supply of PERK products/fragrances

    b.     1 PERK travel mug

    c.     2 pairs of PERK sunglasses (1 green and 1 black)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

You can find PERK products at Walmart, Target, Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone, Meijer, Kroger, Pep Boys, Publix, CVS, and other places auto air fresheners are sold. $1 off PERK coupon

It's super easy to make and very inexpensive! Here's what you need to make your own rope sign-

Vintage lemonade stand with reversible chalkboard sign | simplykierste.com

Vintage lemonade stand with reversible chalkboard sign

Making a lemonade stand has been on my list...pretty much forever.  The last few years we've been so transient that it wasn't really an option--with no where to store it and moves coming up.  Even though all of our things are in storage right now, we did keep out the chop saw so that we would be able to build things for our new house.  With summer parties and entertaining on the horizon, I decided it was time for a lemonade stand.  I'm calling it a lemonade stand just because I'm not sure what else to call it, and also because it makes it sound cuter, but it will mostly be used as a outside serving station. I added a few features, including a reversible chalkboard sign, and decided on a color that will make it perfect for all of my outdoor entertaining!!

"Before you can play" summer chore chart | simplykierste.com

Save your sanity with a “before you can play” chore list!

Every summer morning I hear the words "can I play?", in one form or another.  They might be referring to going outside to play, having friends over, wanting me to take them somewhere, requesting screen time, or  any number of things that's on their agenda that day.  I got really tired of listing the things off that they needed to do before they could play (even though they already knew), that I decided to make things easier for not only myself, but for the kids too, by making a summer "before you can play" chore list.  I hung it on the fridge, and when they want to know if they can play, I just ask if they have everything done on the list! Love!

An easy way to create circular text in Photoshop Elements | simplykierste.com

An easy way to create circular text in Photoshop Elements

I love making cute customized tags and stickers for different projects and gifts, and I've used Photoshop Elements (referred to as PSE from here on out) for many years to do just that. It's also a great photo editor, but even though I use different software for editing photos, I still love PSE for creating printables.  It's a pretty reasonable cost (affiliate link--you can download it on Amazon for $69), and there is just so much you can do with it! I love it, and use it often. I think it's one of the best values you can get for your money!

One of favorite things to do is to create circular text around the outside of my tag or sticker. I think it's SO cute!  It looks hard, but it really is so easy! In just a few steps, you can make your own text circle, and I'm going to show you how! Here's the one I whipped up for this example...it literally took me less than 10 minutes!  I'm currently using the most recent version of PSE, but I've used this technique for a long time, on much older versions--I think as far back as PSE 5 or 6--so hopefully if you have an older version you will be able to as well!

How to plank a piano & a chalk paint piano makeover | simplykierste.com

How To Paint a Piano & Add Shiplap…A Piano Makeover!

So, I planked my piano.  YES, I did! I have been wanting to paint my piano for a very long time.  Years, in fact.  I don't know why I've hesitated, because normally I paint anything and everything I can get my hands on. I think a lot of it is due to the fact that the last couple of years we have been moving around a lot--three states in a two and a half years--and now that our new house will be finished in a few months, our temporary living situation will cease. Hallelujah! I haven't been able to really do any projects or decorating for years, and I'm more than ready to start digging into my mile-long list so they'll be ready when we move in.

Project #1?  The piano.  It's one of the few things we kept out of storage. We might be sleeping on futons, and we don't have a real kitchen table, but we have a piano! As a pianist, it was never really a question if it was coming with us or not, and now that my kids are playing too, we found the space. It's actually the piano I learned to play on, and it has a lot of sentimental value.  It just needed major makeover--mostly because it just wasn't my style, and the wood was an orange-y color that didn't go with anything. So I decided to go all in--not just paint, but a update it with whole new look that would match our new farmhouse-style home. When I think farmhouse, I think of planked wood.  I'm kind of obsessed.  But really, how much more perfect can you get?  So, yes, I planked my piano. And I LOVE it.

12 yummy breakfast ideas for overnight guests | simplykierste.com

Company’s coming! Breakfast ideas for overnight guests

We moved away from our family and home state when we left for graduate school, and since then we've lived in four different states and gathered dear friends in every place we've been.  We love LOVE when we have guests, and when our friends and family come to visit.  It's always so wonderful to get to spend time with them, and show them "our town".  I seriously can't wait for our house to be finished, so we can start having guests again!

We are pretty casual when it comes to breakfast, and even when guests come, we mostly stick to hot/cold cereal, fruit, yogurt, and juice.  It's always fun serving an extra yummy breakfast during the visit, and we'll save it for a morning when we have plenty of time to enjoy it. Summer travel brings with it more opportunities for guests, so I gathered up some of the most mouth-watering breakfast recipes I could find.  Many of them are also easy and quick to put together, which with their delicious factor, make for a winning combination!
