I’m still pinching myself.

I’m sure the surreal feeling I have is going to last for a very long time, because whether I say it out loud or in my head it seems like there’s no way it’s really true.  But it is!

It’s also the reason I’ve been posting a little less than usual, and why that will most likely be the case for the next few months.  It’s been almost a week since my last post, and it’s because I’ve been working like mad on my biggest project so far.

Here’s a little hint…

I'm going to be an author!! | simplykierste.com

I’m going to be an author!! I’m so excited, and nervous, and excited, and nervous! I’m learning how to balance being a mom, write a book, and still get all the laundry done. :)  It’s been quite the learning process, as I know it will continue to be.

My book is all about holiday traditions for families, which is something I love and am passionate about.  I can’t wait to share it with all of you!  The plan for its release is Fall of 2016.

So…please know I’m not going anywhere, and I will definitely still be posting. I have a lot of fun projects for the holidays that I want to share But it will definitely not be here as often as usual–not until my manuscript has been safely delivered! And because my kids and husband appreciate clean socks and underwear. And dinner.

I would also REALLY REALLY LOVE to hear about your holiday traditions, and possibly include them in my book. What do you love to do as a family to celebrate the holidays?  It can be any holiday, and it doesn’t have to be fancy or take a lot of planning–just something you do together.

If you’d like to send me a submission, please email me at [email protected], with HOLIDAY TRADITION SUBMISSION as the subject title.  I can’t want to hear from you!!

Thank you all for reading! MWAH!!!  (that’s a kiss, btw. :) )

xoxoxo

  3. Congrats Kierste! Your blog is my go-to for crafts and holiday ideas. My husband makes fun of me because I can almost always tell if something we see on the internet is made by or from you. I recognize your kiddos names and your use of distress ink. I can’t wait for your book to come out.

    1. Ginni, this totally just made my day!! I LOVE that you mentioned the distress ink–it is my favorite. :) It’s one of the things that my friends always tease me about–that and labeling everything with vinyl and adding ribbon to anything I can get my hands on, lol. Thank you so much for reading, and for your support! I so appreciate it!! P.S. I would love to hear about one of your traditions!

  4. Congrats Kierste! This is so great! I can’t wait to get it and read it! I may be sending you an email with our traditions! <3

  8. Congrats! I can’t wait to read your book! I know it will be awesome! It’s ironic that you asked about holiday tradtions today… Because fall is in the air and thoughts of Christmas are starting to muster in my head! I sometimes think I was really Santa in a previous life (because I love kids and Christmas that much – ha!)! I have all the traditional favorites like watching all of our favorite Christmas movies throughtout the month od December, staying home for Christmas so travel doesn’t take up valuable holiday time, baking, finding the absolute perfect gifts, decorating the tree as a family, ohhhhh… And let’s not forget Christmas music! It will probably be played at my funeral!

Anyway, two unique ideas/traditions I have are: 1) having a picture taken WITH Santa at the mall as a FAMILY. Then we display those pics every year. They are just the cheesy mall pics but I adore each one of them! 2) I buy our older son a recordable book each Christmas from Hallmark. He in turn records his voice and tells the story. At Christmas, he wraps it up and gives it to his little brother (who is 10 years younger than him.) It is such a treasure… Not only to our youngest son… But to me… To hear his voice when he was younger. I love hearing his voice change and mature each year.

Let me just add a couple other interesting things… As I was shopping on Black Friday… I was waiting in line to use my free $10 coupon. After some ladies (sisters) got done checking out, one of them turned to me and my then baby in the stroller and handed me a picture frame that said the year and “Santa and Me” on it. She said, Merry Christmas and walked away. It made my YEAR!

Fast forward a couple years… i was reading an all time favorite blog, Pitter Patter… And that they do special things for people during the month of December. Some cost money, some take time…. So, last year instead of giving my inlaws traditional gifts… i made them a 12 month giving project. Each month I gave them a card such as… February: give the popcorn box filled with goodiesto a random person at Red Box. Or… Take all these toiletries to your local women’s shelter. I provided each month’s gift for them to give. And, December was randomly give this Christmas picture frame to someone standing in line to see Santa. :)

    Hope these help. Good luck!

  9. Yay!!! That is so cool and exciting! You are the perfect person to write a book like this. Can’t wait for you to finish.
    Good luck!

  10. Great news! You’ll do a great job for sure!

We have sweet, simple traditions. (Although since I have a baby now, I’m sure we will be adding a bunch more traditions!)

A week or two before Christmas, we always make chocolate covered cherries. It’s a must do! And on Christmas Eve, we have a finger food feast! Any finger foods are welcome, and we are usually watching A Christmas Story while we enjoy the feast. :)

    Good luck juggling everything!

  11. I couldn’t be more thrilled for you! You are one of the most talented women I know and by far my favorite blog to follow! Congrats and can’t wait for you to share with us. Good luck!
