I like chocolate. Okay, scratch that. I love chocolate! So does my family, and chocolate chip cookies are pretty much a weekly staple at our house. I also may or may not be known to sneak a few chocolate chips out of the pantry as a little treat to myself! And I can’t even imagine a summer without S’Mores–they’re just tradition.
Whether it’s an afternoon making cookies, making S’Mores around a campfire, or as part of a holiday celebration, HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate is our go-to favorite for many reasons. At the top of the list (other than that it’s delicious chocolate) is the fact that they use simple ingredients, colors from natural sources, and aren’t made with any artificial preservatives, flavors or sweeteners. That’s good for me, my kids and our whole family.
I really appreciate that HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate is made with 100% farm fresh milk. Did you know that every day, local dairy farmers within 100 miles of the factory in Hershey, Pennsylvania, deliver tens of thousands of gallons of milk to make HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate? In fact, the abundance of milk in the area is why Milton Hershey chose Pennsylvania way back in 1905. It’s also what helps set them apart – Hershey is one of the few mass-produced chocolate manufacturers in the U.S. that uses farm fresh milk in its HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate. I live in a rural, agricultural area, and believe in supporting local farms, so this is a big deal to me.
Here’s another fun fact: 17,000 cows (most of them are Holstein cows–distinguished by their distinctive black and white markings) are milked EACH day to supply milk to the Hershey factory!
And it’s not just the milk. Roasted almonds grown in California, certified cocoa, sugar, and a natural vanilla flavor are some of the other simple ingredients that make HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate so yummy.
I recently learned about the process of making HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate, and it’s so fascinating! I love knowing about how the food we eat is made, and this was no exception. Here’s a really cool graphic that illustrates it perfectly…
You can also check out this fun video that follows the farm fresh milk–from the cows at a local farm all the way to the Hershey Factory, to a finished HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Bar! This is great for kids too–they’ll love seeing the adorable cows and the chocolate-making too.
This farm girl loves HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate—especially knowing it is made with farm fresh milk.
