First Day of School Free Printables | simplykierste.com

First day of school printables!

I know, I know, back-to-school stuff already??!!  The summer is flying by, and even though we have a little more than a month before my kids are back in school (right after Labor Day), I know it's going to come fast. We are trying to stuff in everything we can, and working on whittling down our summer bucket list.  Too many things, not enough time!

I'm also in my get-everything-organized-before-school-starts mode, and making these cute first day of school printables was on my list.  I know some of you  go back to school in August, so I thought I'd share them now!

Easy peasy lemon squeeze...fun printable gift tag | simplykierste.com

Easy peasy lemon squeezy: “you can do it” gift tag

Four years ago I ran my first marathon.  It was one of the most challenging and most rewarding things I've ever done.  Nine months before that, my second set of twins were almost a year old, and I really wanted to get back in shape. My best friend asked me if I wanted to do a half marathon, and I actually laughed!  I've always played sports, but pretty much had the mentality that there was no reason to run unless you were chasing a ball. :)  I decided to take her up on it, and in ten weeks, I ran my first half marathon.  Then the crazy idea to run a marathon became a reality just six months later.  In nine months I went from running a couple of miles to running a full marathon, and while I'm not the fastest girl out there, I did discover what I can do when I make a goal and work hard.  I absolutely know that I couldn't have done it without the support of my family, without my best friend (some of our long runs will forever be a part of my fondest memories), or without my closest friends cheering me on.

The day of the race, one of those wonderful friends gave us the cutest gift. I was feeling so nervous, and just that small and simple gesture gave me a boost that I so appreciated. Yes, it was kind of cheesy, but I loved it, and now when I want to cheer someone on, give them a little boost, and remind them that "you can do it", this is a gift I love to give.

Are your kids arguing? Try Kindness Punch Cards! | simplykierste.com

Are your kids arguing? Try a kindness punch card!

One of the hardest things about having all my kids home in the summer is the arguing.  Don't get me wrong--they are really good kids, and they do well most of the time, but being home all together all of the time tends to cause more disagreements and disruptions than usual.  It certainly doesn't help that we are in a very small space, pretty much on top of each other, and without most of their toys and games, but even other summers in the past it was an issue. Does your family struggle with this too?

Today I decided something had to be done.  They need a little extra motivation to be kind even when it's hard--even when one of their siblings does something that bugs them or that they don't like.  So...I created a kindness punch card, and I'm hoping that giving them a little incentive will help the peace in our home, but also help them to think twice before reacting negatively. It will also give me the opportunity to really look for and focus on the good choices they're making, which also helps to set the tone. I'm looking forward to trying it--we're starting today!

"Before you can play" summer chore chart | simplykierste.com

Save your sanity with a “before you can play” chore list!

Every summer morning I hear the words "can I play?", in one form or another.  They might be referring to going outside to play, having friends over, wanting me to take them somewhere, requesting screen time, or  any number of things that's on their agenda that day.  I got really tired of listing the things off that they needed to do before they could play (even though they already knew), that I decided to make things easier for not only myself, but for the kids too, by making a summer "before you can play" chore list.  I hung it on the fridge, and when they want to know if they can play, I just ask if they have everything done on the list! Love!

An easy way to create circular text in Photoshop Elements | simplykierste.com

An easy way to create circular text in Photoshop Elements

I love making cute customized tags and stickers for different projects and gifts, and I've used Photoshop Elements (referred to as PSE from here on out) for many years to do just that. It's also a great photo editor, but even though I use different software for editing photos, I still love PSE for creating printables.  It's a pretty reasonable cost (affiliate link--you can download it on Amazon for $69), and there is just so much you can do with it! I love it, and use it often. I think it's one of the best values you can get for your money!

One of favorite things to do is to create circular text around the outside of my tag or sticker. I think it's SO cute!  It looks hard, but it really is so easy! In just a few steps, you can make your own text circle, and I'm going to show you how! Here's the one I whipped up for this example...it literally took me less than 10 minutes!  I'm currently using the most recent version of PSE, but I've used this technique for a long time, on much older versions--I think as far back as PSE 5 or 6--so hopefully if you have an older version you will be able to as well!

Teacher Gift Card Holder | FREE printable | simplykierste.com

Easy & adorable teacher gift card holder

I've done a lot of different things for my kids' teachers over the years, but no matter what I give, I almost always tuck in a gift card.  Whether it's to Target, Staples, or even our local education store, I know that's what teachers want...and need.  I'm still amazed and so appreciative of how much of their own money they spend on their kids and classrooms, and it's my hope to help just a little by showing my gratitude with a gift card.

I created a super cute {free} teacher gift card holder that's perfect for any gift card! You can get it from any store, for any amount, and tuck it right inside for the fabulous teacher(s) in your child's life.  Yes, they hit the mark this year!!!

Keep your summers organized with the printable 2015 Summer Schedule | free printable | simplykierste.com

Make your summer easier with a printable summer schedule & calendar 2015

I have been receiving comments and emails about if and when I would be posting a 2015 Summer Schedule, and it totally took me off guard, because we still have two months of school left.  So for all of you lucky ducks that get out in May, I thought I should get this posted now!

Keep your summers organized with the printable 2015 Summer Schedule | free printable | simplykierste.com

I LOVE having this spreadsheet for our summer schedule, and after using it for several years, I can't imagine a summer without it. There is always so much going on--concerts in the park, park days, library story times, ball games----and while we're not going to go to every single one of them, I want to know when they are in case we can go.  There just isn't room on my regular calendar for all of that information, plus when you adding swimming lessons, vacations, and summer camps, it's really ridiculous.

A Letter to the Easter Bunny: Official Easter Bunny Stationery

I'm so excited to introduce Kiki Comin, from Kiki and Company as a new Simply Kierste contributor. I absolutely have adored her from the minute I met her last year, and I know you will too.  She's extremely talented, and such a genuine person--I just love her! Her printables have always been some of my very favorites, and she will be sharing some here each month!  Please go say hello to her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram too!

-------

Hi everyone! I am so happy to be here sharing a fun printable with you every month. My name is Kiki from Kiki and Company. I first met Kierste last year at SNAP (a blogging conference) and we became instant friends. She is amazing, so I feel blessed to share here on her blog.So the first thing you will get to know about me is that I have a whole gaggle of kids (5 of them!). They keep me on my toes and keep me inspired from day to day. I LOVE being a mom and coming up with ways to make life exciting and fresh for them. Easter is in just a few days, so I wanted to share a really fun printable for a last minute surprise. I still have a few kiddos who believe in the Easter Bunny and as long as I have kids who believe, I have to make it magical! Each year, even my oldest who don't believe are stumped by the Easter Bunny who leaves droppings (m&m's and jellybeans) all around the house and out the door to where he disappears. They are so excited to see what the Easter Bunny has to say to them and look forward to letters from him. So this year, we are getting official with Official Easter Bunny Stationary!

DIY FInances Ledger | free printables | simplykierste.com

DIY Finances Ledger

A couple of years ago I posted about the kitchen mini command center I made for our Texas home. One of the things that I mentioned was my bills and finances ledger. I've had so many e-mails and questions about it that I decided to give it its very own post!  Even though my command center has had to be modified since we moved, that finances ledger has remained the same.

I use this ledger almost every day. I pay the bills and handle the finances for our family, so I use it to stay organized and keep track of all of our financial information. My husband is also able to look at it whenever he wants to, and see exactly where we're at and what's going on--and find something quickly if I'm not at home.  I use it to track our savings, bills that are paid and need to be paid, receipts, checking account balance and receipts, flex spending, tax info, and a variety of other financial information. It works really, really well for us, and I'm excited to share it with you!

Bunny Bait Trail Mix

We're into snacks at our house.  There might be three main meals, but there are at least 42 other times in the day that my kids want to eat.  My baby (yes, she's almost two, but she's my baby!!) asks every 5 seconds for a "nack", and I pretty much always acquiesce.  If you saw her cute face, I bet you would too!  When the holidays come around, I love to do simple snacks for our own little celebration, and with Easter coming, that means it's time for our favorite Bunny Bait Trail Mix!

Give 14 days of Valentines to someone you love! | simplykierste.com

14 days of valentines for someone you love!

It's been a tough couple of years for my kids, and our family.  We've lived in three states and moved cross country twice over that short period of time, and that's meant a lot of changes, including leaving the only place they've ever  really known.  We are starting to get settled here in upstate New York, and in the process of building a home, where we hope to live for a very long time.  I've felt like doing some extra-special things for my kids and my husband, to show them how much I love them, and give them a little extra joy, and Valentine's Day is the perfect time to do that.  I created a really fun 14 Days of Valentines, and I know they are all going to love it!

Annual Interview Questions for Kids | simplykierste.com

All about me: annual interview questions for kids

I take a lot of pictures of my kids. And I mean A LOT.  I always have a camera with me, and I was super happy when the smartphone came along, so then I had a phone AND a camera all-in-one!  My kids know that no matter the occasion, no matter we go, pictures are going to happen  It's just how it is.  But what I love just as much as photos are their little words--the funny things they say, what they think about, and how they view the world.  Years ago, I started doing an annual interview with my kids, and it's seriously my favorite thing EVER.  At first it was on paper only, but now I do video too.  We have a family blog that I update regularly and get printed every year, so I keep it in print in our blog book, and then I have the digital version as well.  I do the interviews on their birthdays, but the beginning of each year is a really great time too!
