Peek-a-boo Valentine Treat Jar

Valentine Treat Jar with free printable | simplykierste.com

Any excuse I can get to combine three things that I love--milk bottles, chocolate, and baker's twine--I take full advantage of it. These Valentine treat jars do just that, and they're the most darling way to tell someone "you're sweet". I just love the peek-a-boo heart that shows all those yummy Valentine M&Ms inside of there! (I always use the Peanut Butter kind...it's my favorite. Many innocent M&M's were consumed during the photo shoot. ) I love how simple they are to make, but they don't look like it!  They're super easy, and don't take long at all.  Let me show you how! SUPPLIES: -milk bottles (you could also use mason jars) -spray paint (red, pink, or … [Read more...]

A Valentine Tree {simple Valentine’s Day decor}

An adorable valentine tree, perfect Valentine's Day decor! | simplykierste.com

I'm going to have to have the most gigantic garage sale this summer when we move into our new house.  I can't tell you how many things I've bought or made to replace that very same or similar item that's in storage.  We even have two trampolines!  (The kids have big plans for them both...we'll see.)  It holds true for holiday decor, too, but with one major difference--I don't believe in having too much! I recently came across the most fabulous red and white striped pitcher, and being enormously obsessed with both red and stripes, I felt as if it was fate.  The best part? It was only $10!  It was a good day.  I had packed it away for next Christmas, but then I realized how perfect it would … [Read more...]

Easy wood Christmas sign

Easy Wood Christmas Sign | simplykierste.com

You might be surprised to hear this, but one of the hardest parts of being in this little apartment and not having any of our things is not the cramped quarters (which I've actually come to appreciate in many ways), but rather not being able to build and create and make stuff!!  With no tools here, and no home to decorate, my list is getting longer and longer by the day. It's what I love to do, so when I get any small opportunity to make something, no matter how simple, I'm a happy happy girl! I decided I needed a little something to go above the chalkboard window in the family room to add a pop of color and a little bit of Christmas to the whole space, especially after my cute husband … [Read more...]

4×4 Post Striped & Polka Dot Candlesticks

4x4 Post Striped & Polka Dot Candlesticks | simplykierste.com

You probably all know by now how much I love polka dots and stripes. I've used them in lots of my projects, with two of my favorites being Peppermint Striped Candlesticks and Striped & Polka Dot Pumpkins. I love them so much that I simply couldn't resist making a set in brown & white for Thanksgiving table centerpieces.  They're easy, adorable, and really inexpensive--three of my favorite things! SO SO cute! I use battery-operated tea lights, so they're totally safe to use indoors, and they look so pretty all lit up. They're perfect on the kitchen table, mantel, shelf, table, or anywhere! I made them exactly like I did the Striped & Polka Dot Pumpkins, so you can follow … [Read more...]

Farmstyle wood fall signs + free Silhouette cut files

Farmstyle Fall Wood Signs | simplykierste.com

With all of our things still in storage, I really needed wanted to make a few fall decorations.  Okay, so I would have made them anyway. :) Anything pumpkins, apples, or fall calls my name, so I decided to start there, and made these adorable farmstyle wood fall signs using pieces of scrap wood. I absolutely love how they turned out, and best of all, they're super easy to make! I wanted them to look more like barn wood--farmstyle--and using a stain then sanding the heck out of them helped me achieve that.  I used stencils I cut out using my Silhouette, and painted them on with white paint. They were an easy weekend project that was mostly drying time (you need to let stain dry for 24 … [Read more...]

Apple mason jar teacher gift

Apple Mason Jar Teacher Gift | simplykierste.com

Today is our first day of school!  I feel like the summer went way too fast, and we just didn't have enough time to do all the things we wanted to do. And...my twin boys are starting kindergarten, and I'm crying my eyes out. For reals. Their time at home goes so quickly--I'm never ready for it to be over.   I'm excited for them and their new adventures, but I have to admit, it's hard for me.  So bittersweet. Between my tears (I'm kind of joking), I'm going to share our teacher gifts that have been safely delivered to the school this morning. Our fun tradition teacher gift for the first of the year is to give an apple--in some form.  Some years it's been a caramel apple, and other years … [Read more...]

Farmhouse style picnic table

Farmhouse Picnic Table | simplykierste.com

The last picnic table we had cost $10.  We had just moved into our first house, while I was at the township office working on paperwork, I saw a pile of picnic tables outside. They happened to be old tables from the parks in our township, and they were selling them cheap to make room for brand new tables.  I dug through the stack and chose the best of the bunch, and after refinishing it several times over the years, it lasted us until we made this last move. I had plans to make another one this spring, and then my cute hubby surprised me by making one when I was out-of-town a couple months ago.   We've always used our picnic table a lot, and with the good weather finally making an … [Read more...]
