Mason Jar Spice Containers | simplykierste.com

Oh, how I love an organized drawer!!  My spice drawer has been making me crazy lately.  They were all in there neatly on their sides, but the different sizes and round shape made everything roll around and cause chaos.  ☺ I decided that this week was time for a long and overdue makeover, and of course I turned to one of my favorite things to help me out...mason jars!  They are the perfect size to fit in the drawer, and with the cute labels on top, it's super easy to find which spice I'm looking for. I love these Mason Jar Spice Containers! Isn't that lovely?  It seriously makes my heart flutter. I used 4 oz. quilted jelly jars , so they would fit in my drawer. I also love the … [Read more...]

Play Kitchen Table...From Drab to Fab | simplykierste.com

A couple of years ago I was looking for a cute little play kitchen table in our playroom, and realized that I had just the thing...an old end table that we weren't using anymore was just sitting gathering dust, and needed to be put to good use.  So, I sprayed it white, and called it good.  Fast forward those couple of years, and this poor table had been through the wringer.  It desperately needed a fresh coat of paint, and a little pep put back into it. I'm also finally starting to decorate the playroom, so this would be one of the first projects to get me up and running.  I LOVE how it turned out! The top of the table had a groove around the edges, creating a big square directly in the … [Read more...]

Easy DIY Ruler Growth Chart {Perfect for SUPER SATURDAY}

DIY Ruler Growth Chart | simplykierste.com

I'm in charge of the Super Saturday at our church this year, which is a big group of ladies getting together to make really fun crafts and projects. It's so fun for me, because it's two of my passions together---creating and talking.  ☺  One of the things I wanted to do this year was make a Ruler Growth Chart. LOVE them!! I've planned many of these, and when it comes to choosing projects for Super Saturday or any craft group, there are several things that I always consider: 1.  It can be totally completed in the time frame we have (what's worse than going home with unfinished projects that are just going to sit in your closet???) 2.  It's appropriate for all skill levels.  Not that … [Read more...]

{using a curtain rod to hang a bunting}

curtain rod bunting | simplykierste.com

I love curtain rods. They are good for so many things in addition to actually hanging curtains! I use them along with curtain ring clips for all of kids' artwork in our reading room, I use one to hang Christmas stockings on the mantel, and I use them in my decor. It's the perfect and simple solution to hanging a bunting...just about anywhere! In the nursery, and in my girls' room, it looks adorable and is a darling focal point of the entire room. {LOVE} It's SO cute over Miss Caroline's crib!   The awesome thing about using a curtain rod is that you can adjust it to whatever size you need--short, long, or extra long. I was able to fit it to the exact size I needed over the crib.  About … [Read more...]

{a chalk paint review: kitchen stools makeover

chalk paint review | simplykierste.com

Even though it's been around for a long time, chalk paint has especially been a trend for the past couple of years, and has been gaining in popularity around the blogosphere. As someone who paints a lot of furniture, I'd wanted to try it for a long time, but really wanted to wait for the perfect project to come along first. Finally, I found THE project.  Eight kitchen stools that belonged to our old dining table--the one before the lovely farmhouse table we use now--that I really wanted to use around our big island were just begging to be refinished.  Six of them would fit...perfect for our kids! Once I decided on the project a few months ago, and was searching for information, I saw a … [Read more...]

{a thanksgiving tree}

thanksgiving tree | simplykierste.com

I love Thanksgiving for so many reasons, and one of them is that it's such a great opportunity for me to help teach my children about gratitude.  We try to work on it all year long, but I love having a month to focus on giving thanks and all the blessings we've been given. One thing that we've always done through the month of November is share the things that we're grateful for, and this year we're doing that with our Thanksgiving tree! It's a wonderfully easy concept--each day the kids choose a leaf, talk about something that they're grateful for, then stick it on the tree.  I just love it as the days progress, and our little tree is filled up with leaves! Plus, it's really cute.  ☺ It … [Read more...]

{tutorial} how to make adhesive labels with your silhouette using print & cut

silhouette label | simplykierste.com

Some of my most favorite Silhouette products are the printable adhesive papers--they have white, kraft paper, clear--because there are so many fun options for labels and tags.  Christmas is quickly coming, and I always start in October with my planning and project list, so I can really enjoy the month of December with my family.  Christmas cards are one thing that can go out right after Thanksgiving, and I thought it would be fun to make some cute adhesive labels for the back of the envelopes. Have you ever used the print & cut feature on your Silhouette?  I LOVE it.  It's so easy, and it's how you can get text and images on the labels you cut out. Think gift tags...address … [Read more...]
