An adorable valentine tree, perfect Valentine's Day decor! | simplykierste.com

A Valentine Tree {simple Valentine’s Day decor}

I'm going to have to have the most gigantic garage sale this summer when we move into our new house.  I can't tell you how many things I've bought or made to replace that very same or similar item that's in storage.  We even have two trampolines!  (The kids have big plans for them both...we'll see.)  It holds true for holiday decor, too, but with one major difference--I don't believe in having too much!

I recently came across the most fabulous red and white striped pitcher, and being enormously obsessed with both red and stripes, I felt as if it was fate.  The best part? It was only $10!  It was a good day.  I had packed it away for next Christmas, but then I realized how perfect it would be for Valentine's Day.  With a little card stock, twine, and a few branches, an adorable Valentine Tree was born!

Easy Wood Christmas Sign | simplykierste.com

Easy wood Christmas sign

You might be surprised to hear this, but one of the hardest parts of being in this little apartment and not having any of our things is not the cramped quarters (which I've actually come to appreciate in many ways), but rather not being able to build and create and make stuff!!  With no tools here, and no home to decorate, my list is getting longer and longer by the day. It's what I love to do, so when I get any small opportunity to make something, no matter how simple, I'm a happy happy girl!

I decided I needed a little something to go above the chalkboard window in the family room to add a pop of color and a little bit of Christmas to the whole space, especially after my cute husband took on the big, bad, storage unit and tried to find our ornaments and decor, but couldn't.  I created a simple but adorable wood Christmas sign that's perfect above a doorway, window, or shelf, and I absolutely love it!

4×4 Post Striped & Polka Dot Candlesticks

You probably all know by now how much I love polka dots and stripes. I've used them in lots of my projects, with two of my favorites being Peppermint Striped Candlesticks and Striped & Polka Dot Pumpkins. I love them so much that I simply couldn't resist making a set in brown & white for Thanksgiving table centerpieces.  They're easy, adorable, and really inexpensive--three of my favorite things!

Apple Mason Jar Teacher Gift | simplykierste.com

Apple mason jar teacher gift

Today is our first day of school!  I feel like the summer went way too fast, and we just didn't have enough time to do all the things we wanted to do. And...my twin boys are starting kindergarten, and I'm crying my eyes out. For reals. Their time at home goes so quickly--I'm never ready for it to be over.   I'm excited for them and their new adventures, but I have to admit, it's hard for me.  So bittersweet.

Between my tears (I'm kind of joking), I'm going to share our teacher gifts that have been safely delivered to the school this morning. Our fun tradition teacher gift for the first of the year is to give an apple--in some form.  Some years it's been a caramel apple, and other years it's been apple soap. This year I decided on these darling apple mason jars full of pencils--perfect for a teacher's desk!

How to easily convert a PNG or JPG file into a Silhouette cut file

There are many things I love about the Silhouette Studio Design Edition software (affiliate link), but one of my favorites is the ability it gives you to take your own files--PNG, JPG, GIF--and convert them into Silhouette cut files, so you can use them in a multitude of different projects!  It really is very simple to do, and since I was just working on a project this week using this method, I thought I would share it with you!

Farmhouse Picnic Table | simplykierste.com

Farmhouse style picnic table

The last picnic table we had cost $10.  We had just moved into our first house, and I was at the township office working in paperwork, when I saw a pile of picnic tables outside. They happened to be old tables from the parks in our township, and they were selling them cheap to make room for brand new tables.  I dug through the stack and chose the best of the bunch, and after refinishing it several times over the years, it lasted us until we made this last move.

I had plans to make another one this spring, and then my cute hubby surprised me by making one when I was out-of-town a couple months ago.   We've always use our picnic table a lot, and with the good weather finally making an appearance here in upstate NY, so I was very happy! I had to wait about 6 weeks for the pretreated lumber to finally dry out in order to finish it, but it's finally down, and I love it!

Painted Flag Window | simplykierste.com

Easy painted flag window

I've been in withdrawals over the last year. Since we moved to New York, all of our things have been in storage while we build our house, including my collection of old windows.  I haven't ad a chance to go looking for more, so when a friend very kindly gave me a few of hers, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with one of them.  Making  a painted flag window has been on my list forever, and I want to use it not only for holiday decor, but on a regular basis in my home.  Not sure where yet...but somewhere!  It was super easy to do, and I LOVE it!

Paint Can Trick-or-Treat Buckets | simplykierste.com

Paint Can Trick-or-Treat Buckets

Remember how I told you everything we have (minus the basics) is in storage?  That means all of our Halloween stuff, including the trick-or-treat buckets.  The kids were pretty concerned about what they would put all of their candy in, so, it was time to make new ones!  I was going to use pails--because I'm seriously obsessed with them, and use them for everything--but when I was in the paint aisle at Home Depot and saw the paint cans, I thought they would be perfect, and so fun!
