Paint Can Trick-or-Treat Buckets

Remember how I told you everything we have (minus the basics) is in storage?  That means all of our Halloween stuff, including the trick-or-treat buckets.  The kids were pretty concerned about what they would put all of their candy in, so, it was time to make new ones!  I was going to use pails--because I'm seriously obsessed with them, and use them for everything--but when I was in the paint aisle at Home Depot and saw the paint cans, I thought they would be perfect, and so fun!

Personalized Baby Blocks

A good friend of mine created the cutest baby announcement cross stitch project for each new baby that's come into their family, and they are proudly on display in her home. I love the idea of having a child's birth information displayed, so I created these darling personalized baby blocks--perfect as a baby gift for a new mom, or for your own child's nursery or room. This is a simple project with a fabulous finish!

Picture ABC Books

One of my absolute favorite things to make for my kids is Picture ABC Books. I make them each their very own book, and it is most definitely a treasured possession. In their book, each letter of the alphabet is represented by a picture of them or someone in our family, so it's not a only a great way to reinforce the ABC's, but also an adorable little mini scrapbook. This month is my twin boys' birthday, and it's their turn for this very special gift!

Older than Dirt: Celebrating a Milestone Birthday

Tonight we went to a surprise party for one of our closest friend's 40th birthday, and it was just SO fun. He was totally surprised, and his wife did a fabulous job planning and executing it. We laughed and laughed, ate a ton of yummy food, and did A LOT of teasing. You can't have a milestone birthday without some ribbing, and in that spirit, I created this fun gift jar...Older than Dirt!

EASY MASON JAR SPICE CONTAINERS

Oh, how I love an organized drawer!!  My spice drawer has been making me crazy lately.  They were all in there neatly, but the different sizes and round shape made everything roll around and cause chaos.  ☺ I decided that this week was time for a long and overdue makeover, and of course I turned to one of my favorite things to help me out...mason jars!  They are the perfect size to fit in the drawer, and with the cute labels on top, it's super easy to find which spice I'm looking for. I love these Mason Jar Spice Containers!

Play Kitchen Table...From Drab to Fab | simplykierste.com

Drab to fab play kitchen table!

A couple of years ago I was looking for a cute little play kitchen table in our playroom, and realized that I had just the thing...an old end table that we weren't using anymore was just sitting gathering dust, and needed to be put to good use.  So, I sprayed it white, and called it good.  Fast forward those couple of years, and this poor table had been through the wringer.  It desperately needed a fresh coat of paint, and a little pep put back into it. I'm also finally starting to decorate the playroom, so this would be one of the first projects to get me up and running.  I LOVE how it turned out!

Easy DIY Ruler Growth Chart

I'm in charge of our Super Saturday at our church this year, which is a big group of ladies getting together to make really fun crafts and projects. It's so fun for me, because it's two of my passions together---creating and talking.  ☺  One of the things I wanted to do this year was make a Ruler Growth Chart.  I LOVE them, and I knew it would appeal to a lot of people.  When it comes to choosing projects for Super Saturday or any craft group, there are several things that I always consider:

1.  It can be totally completed in the time frame we have (what's worse than going home with unfinished projects that are just going to sit in your closet???)

2.  It's appropriate for all skill levels.  Not that everyone doesn't have the ability, just may not have the experience.

3. It will have a wide appeal.

This ruler growth chart met all of those requirements, and best of all, it is SO SO easy,  Seriously.  It's also really reasonable--it's less than $15 to make!!

{february silhouette promo & CAMEO GIVEAWAY!!!!}

I LOVE a good giveaway, and since my Silhouette Cameo is one of my favorite things, it's always so exciting to be able to give one away!  So...hang tight, there will be more info at the bottom of the post, where you can enter to WIN!!!

This month's Silhouette promo is one of my favorites...it's featuring The Silhouette Studio® Designer Edition Software, which is AMAZING.  It has so many extras compared to the basic software that comes with your machine, but one of the most exciting features is being able to open SVG files directly, import your own designs to the Silhouette library, and cut them! That opens up so many possibilities!

Here is a side-by-side comparison of the basic and designer editions of the software:

{using a curtain rod to hang a bunting}

I love curtain rods. They are good for so many things in addition to actually hanging curtains! I use them along with curtain ring clips for all of kids' artwork in our reading room, I use one to hang Christmas stockings on the mantel, and I use them in my decor. It's the perfect and simple solution to hanging a bunting...just about anywhere! In the nursery, and in my girls' room, it looks adorable and is a darling focal point of the entire room. {LOVE}

{a chalk paint review: kitchen stools makeover

Even though it's been around for a long time, chalk paint has especially been a trend for the past couple of years, and has been gaining in popularity around the blogosphere. As someone who paints a lot of furniture, I'd wanted to try it for a long time, but really wanted to wait for the perfect project to come along first. Finally, I found THE project.  Eight kitchen stools that belonged to our old dining table--the one before the lovely farmhouse table we use now--that I really wanted to use around our big island were just begging to be refinished.  Six of them would fit...perfect for our kids!

{a thanksgiving tree}

I love Thanksgiving for so many reasons, and one of them is that it's such a great opportunity for me to help teach my children about gratitude.  We try to work on it all year long, but I love having a month to focus on giving thanks and all the blessings we've been given. One thing that we've always done through the month of November is share the things that we're grateful for, and this year we're doing that with our Thanksgiving tree!

How to Make Adhesive Labels With Your Silhouette Using Print & Cut

Some of my most favorite Silhouette products are the printable adhesive papers--they have white, kraft paper, clear--because there are so many fun options for labels and tags.  Christmas is quickly coming, and I always start in October with my planning and project list, so I can really enjoy the month of December with my family.  Christmas cards are one thing that can go out right after Thanksgiving, and I thought it would be fun to make some cute adhesive labels for the back of the envelopes.

Have you ever used the print & cut feature on your Silhouette?  I LOVE it.  It's so easy, and it's how you can get text and images on the labels you cut out. Think gift tags...address labels...envelope labels...and more! I'm going to share the tutorial for making circle labels, but you can do other shapes too!  If you have any questions at the end of it, please ask me--I'm happy to help!

Okay...open up your Silhouette software, and set it to 8.5 x 11, and a cutting mat--whatever size you are using. I use a 12 x 12 mat, as you can see on the screen.
