Fortune Cookie Gift Tags & Free Printable {Mother’s Day and Friendship}

fortune cookie gift tags | simplykierste.com

Can I just say that chocolate-dipped fortune cookies are SUPER yummy?  ☺ I work with the young children at my church, and we like to have the kids give something to their moms on Mother's Day.  I've always loved the fortune cookie gift idea, and I thought it would be perfect for all of the lovely mothers of our cute Primary kids.  We have almost 200 kids, so we always need to come up with something that will work for a large group.  That's one of the reasons I love this idea so much--it's easily adaptable for numbers--whether you need a bunch of them, or just a few, it works! And the tags...once I got started I couldn't stop! I made some for mothers, grandmothers, friends, and even visiting … [Read more...]

{christmas mason jar gift set}

christmas mason jar gift set | simplykierste.com

This post was sponsored by Michael's.  All opinions are 100% mine and mine alone. ----- In addition to the in-store Michael's Pinterest party last weekend (and it was SO fun), I threw a Pinterest Party at my house this week for some of my friends, and we had a FABULOUS time!  I love the idea of getting together with friends for a party to create some of the things that you see on Pinterest...to not just pin, but make it! I, of course, am a huge advocate for DIY projects, so this is exciting to me. Plus...it's so much more fun to craft and create with friends!  For my party, I went with a DIY gift theme, and decided on one of my favorite gifts to give, with a Christmas spin...a Christmas … [Read more...]

{teacher gift idea…and the best hot fudge ever}

teacher gift idea | hot fudge | simplykierste.com

Aaahhh!  Teacher gifts already?  This summer is flying by!  I first posted this hot fudge teacher gift idea almost three years ago, but I didn't include a printable, so I thought it was a good time to add one.  It's still one of my very favorite things to give...silky hot fudge in a mason jar, complete with darling paper and twine.  LOVE.  I'm not kidding.  This is the kind of hot fudge you just want to eat with a spoon. (Not that I have ever done that.)  Heck, who needs the ice cream? But when it's warmed up, and generously poured over vanilla ice cream, well, it will make your heart sing.  It makes such a yummy teacher gift, but can be given on lots of occasions.  For your neighbors at … [Read more...]

Six Steps to Saying Thank You + Free Printable Tags

This was originally posted on the Time Out For Women blog...I am so excited to be a part of their featured bloggers series, where we share experiences and ideas for Living Higher.  There are some really great posts by many awesome bloggers--definitely worth a visit!! ----- I'm a big believer in thank you notes.  And thank you treats. ☺ This technologically savvy world we live in has provided us with super fast ways to communicate, including text and e-mail, but when it comes to saying thank you, nothing beats a hand-written thank you note.  I'm talking about a good, old fashioned, lick the envelope, put a stamp on the front and drop it in the mailbox kind of note.  Isn't it the BEST … [Read more...]

Paper Sack Mother’s Day Card: a Child’s Q&A

paper sack mother's day cards | simplykierste.com

At my church, I get to work with the Primary children (kids aged 3-11), and I LOVE it. Mother's Day is just a few short weeks away, and this week I designed a super fun card that I think all their moms are going to love! I wanted to make a card where they could each express some favorite things about their mom.  I was talking to one of my best friends this week, and she reminded me of an idea that I have actually loved for a long time...in fact, my oldest son wrote a card like it for me when he was in preschool, and it's one of my most treasured possessions.  Asking a child questions about their mom--some funny, others serious--and putting it all together in a cute package was just what I … [Read more...]

{over the rainbow} st. patrick’s day fun & free printable!

rainbow final title

Skittles are perfect for St. Patrick's Day...all those rainbow colors!  I paired them with one of my personal favorites, gold-wrapped Rolos for a super fun gift...for friends, neighbors, teachers, and more!  I also created a fun tag, and free printable, just for you!!! I save all of my Crystal Light containers, which I LOVE to re-use for all sorts of gifting and organizational purposes.  I love the lids, how easy the wrappers are to take off, their size & shape, and that they are see-through!  If you don't have any, or want something smaller, try a jelly jar, other small mason jar, or a baby food jar/container. I layered the candy starting with the Skittles first--in rainbow … [Read more...]

{you’re special…birthday jar}

you're special birthday mason jar

One of my best friends in all the world had a birthday this week.  And not just any birthday...the big 30!!!!  I left her 6 months ago when we moved to Texas, and I was SO sad that I was going to miss this milestone. I knew I wanted to send her something to really celebrate this particular birthday, and let her know how special she is to me.  So...I made her a birthday jar! It's just a simple pint-size mason jar, but it's what's inside that really counts.  Tucked away inside the jar are 30 things (one for each year) about her that I love---special memories, characteristics, qualities, talents, and all those things that make a friendship what they are.  I thought it was the perfect way to … [Read more...]

{diy personalized mugs & dishes} great gift idea!

diy personalized mug and dishes

With the holidays quickly approaching (Thanksgiving is in 3 weeks???), it's the time for easy and simple gift giving ideas and decor projects.  How about personalized mugs for gift giving, and personalized dishes for serving, decor, and everyday use?  You won't believe how simple it is to do,  and they can both be done very inexpensively. I've been wanting to try the porcelain paint pens you can find at Michael's or other hobby stores that are made specifically for porcelain/ceramic dishes, and once cured, are dishwasher safe.  I finally tried it, and I LOVE it! I found these simple white bowls at the dollar store for $1 each a few years ago, and it was time for a little face lift!  I … [Read more...]

{fabric handled buckets}

fabric handles 4 title

I just love little buckets!  They are one of my favorite ways to give a small gift, or package a yummy treat for a friend or neighbor.  You can find them really cheap--my most successful places to check are in the Target one spot, or at the dollar store--both places they are only $1! Using fabric, or even ribbon, as a handle adds the most charming detail to any small pail or bucket ( LOVE those little knots on the sides), and it's an easy way to add in some color to match any holiday or season.  This black and white polka dot is perfect for Halloween, but how fun would this be for Christmas, filled with yummy treats for neighbor gifts?  Easter, Valentine's Day, 4th of July...they would be … [Read more...]
