Make your summer easier with a printable summer schedule & calendar 2015

Keep your summers organized with the printable 2015 Summer Schedule | free printable | simplykierste.com

I have been receiving comments and emails about if and when I would be posting a 2015 Summer Schedule, and it totally took me off guard, because we still have two months of school left.  So for all of you lucky ducks that get out in May, I thought I should get this posted now! I LOVE having this spreadsheet for our summer schedule, and after using it for several years, I can't imagine a summer without it. There is always so much going on--concerts in the park, park days, library story times, ball games----and while we're not going to go to every single one of them, I want to know when they are in case we can go.  There just isn't room on my regular calendar for all of that … ...read more

Irresistible fudgy brownies recipe

Irresistible Fudgy Brownies | simplykierste.com

When I was growing up, I didn't like chocolate.  I have no idea what I could have possibly been thinking (or not thinking), because now a big fat brownie with vanilla ice cream is just about my favorite thing ever.  Now I probably like it too much!  Maybe it's when I had my first baby when everything changed? I don't know, but I'm so glad it did. because I can't imagine my life without chocolate! This lovely recipe came into my life years ago, at a flute concert for one of my piano students.  They had these fantastic brownies at the reception afterward, and I didn't leave before writing down the recipe.   I don't know how I overlooked it, but somehow I didn't make them again until just a … ...read more

My favorite way to keep kids safe in the water: Puddle Jumpers!

Puddle Jumpers | simplykierste.com

This post brought to you by Stearns Puddle Jumpers®. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Simply Kierste. ---------- All of my children enjoy being in the water, but one in particular would actually live in it if he could, and has absolutely loved it since he was tiny.  At that young age, he also had no fear (still doesn't), and none of the ramifications that came with it (including nearly giving me a heart attack on more than occasion).  From early on, I knew I needed to find a flotation device that would not only keep him safe, but allow him to enjoy the water he loved so much. I remember the first time I saw a Stearns Puddle Jumper.  We were at the pool, and I saw a … ...read more

The yummiest lemon coconut bread

Lemon Coconut Bread | simplykierste.com

Lemon is the yummiest, who's with me?? I had a hankering this week for something lemon (surprise, surprise), and I decided on something with the word "bread" in the title to make me feel better about eating so much of it.  P.S.  It's really cake.  :) But it's REALLY good! I'm not a real coconut fan, but I love the flavor.  Is that weird?  This recipe uses coconut milk to add the delicious coconut component, and paired with the lemon, it's dynamite!! It's a quick and easy recipe, and you can whip it up in no time, which is what I'm all about  My kids love this as an after school snack, with a big glass of milk, and it doesn't last long at our house. I really need to start doubling it, … ...read more

How to make an easy & adorable quiet book | simplykierste.com

Make an easy & adorable quiet book for your toddler or preschooler using plastic name badge holders and this darling free printable! I adore name badges, and I've used them for so many projects.  Not only are they inexpensive, but they're the perfect portable size.  I made my twin boys quiet books several years ago using them, and this week I decided it was time for my baby girl to have one too! Since we're working on our numbers and shapes, I created a darling set of  printables that I thought would be perfect for the quiet book.  Caroline absolutely loves it, and it tucks right in my diaper bag or purse to use in the car, at church, or while we're waiting … ...read more

Strawberry Poundcake with Lemon Cream

Strawberry Poundcake with Lemon Cream | simplykierste.com

The weather has been absolutely incredible this week. My windows have been thrown open, chores have been set aside to play at the park, and we're all wishing there wasn't school or work...at least for a day or two.  The lovely spring temperatures also have me craving flavors like lemon and strawberry, and I bent to temptation and made one of my most favorite desserts, Strawberry Poundcake with Lemon Cream. My roots are Southern, and my grandmother is one of the reasons I love to bake.  I grew up eating her biscuits & gravy, fried catfish, grits & eggs, (and more) and I'm Southern girl at heart. When I was 8 years old, my grandmother gave me my own cookbook filled with her favorite … ...read more
