Our bathroom under the stairs…a great way to utilize space in our basement!
A bathroom under the stairs!
When we started drawing up the plan to finish our basement, we knew we really wanted to add a bathroom. It hadn’t been plumbed for one when we built, so we were able to choose where we wanted it to be–and where it would work best. Because of the existing rooms that we weren’t going to finish (our workshop and a large storage room), and the layout of the rest of the space, there really wasn’t a great place to add a bathroom. All of our options would really cut into the space we wanted to use for the other rooms. Then…I realized we could just put a bathroom under the stairs!
We actually have two sets of stairs going down to our basement—one from inside our house, and the other from our garage down into the workshop. We ended up putting the bathroom under the garage stairs, which was in the perfect spot.
You might be wondering if the space under the stairs is too small for a bathroom…but it’s not! There’s enough room for a toilet and pedestal sink–but it’s exactly what we needed.
We painted the whole room white, and I absolutely love the charm of the painted stairs in the space. It’s the cutest!
I chose vinyl flooring that looks like hardwood, which was the perfect choice for the bathroom, and the exercise room–which is the room that the bathroom is actually in. It fit the budget, plus it was smooth with no seams or grout, which is what we needed and wanted.
I absolutely love how it turned out, and I’m so happy we decided on a bathroom under the stairs!
