Caramel Nut Marshmallows

Making Christmas treats is one of my favorite holiday activities. I have list of tried and true recipes I make every year, including my Snowball Cookies, Pecan Tassies, and Chocolate Peppermint Cake Roll. Also on that list are these delightful Caramel Marshmallows, which are a childhood favorite and family recipe passed down to me.

It’s just four simple ingredients…marshmallows, wrapped caramels, a little half and half, and chopped nuts.  Not only are they little bites of heaven, but they literally take minutes to make. The longest part is unwrapping the caramels, and that’s the job I give to my kids. They love doing it, especially since I pay in caramels!

Ingredients

  • Half and half
  • Kraft caramels
  • Marshmallows
  • Chopped nuts

You can always opt for your own homemade caramel recipe if you prefer–it will just take a bit longer to make the marshmallows. Normally I go for homemade caramel, but in this recipe, I do like the Kraft caramels.

Equipment

I like to put them on striped paper straws because I love to add a little Christmas to the presentation, but you can also use lollipop sticks.

How to make

Put marshmallows onto the lollipop sticks or paper straws.

Place the nuts in a pie plate or other shallow dish.

Unwrap the caramels and place in a large pan along with the half and half. Over medium heat, melt the caramels until thoroughly melted and smooth, stirring constantly.

Dip the marshmallows one by one into the caramel, and then roll in the nuts.

Place them on wax paper, and let the caramel set–an hour or so–before serving.

FAQ

Can these be made without nuts?

Absolutely! If you need a nut-free option, you can leave off the nuts.

They’re perfect for serving at parties, adding to holiday treat plates, and setting out for guests.  Just watch out…they’re addicting!

Best of all, they’re just so easy to make.  I love how quickly I can get them made and ready to go.  My kids also love helping with the dipping—-and then of course, the tasting when we’re finished.
