Favorite Chalkboard Fonts + How to Make Your Own Chalkboard Printables

I jumped on the chalkboard bandwagon wholeheartedly, and I hope it’s around for a long time to come!  I love creating chalkboard printables, and the key ingredient is…the fonts!  If you love the chalkboard look too, I’ve got my favorite chalkboard fonts for you today! I create all of my printables in Photoshop (you can use Elements too), but if you don’t have it or know how to use it, I’m also going to show you how easy it is to do in PicMonkey–a free online photo editor.

Now, as I said earlier, there is a SUPER easy way to create chalkboard printables if you don’t have access to Photoshop CS or Photoshop Elements. Like SO SO easy.  You won’t have access to all of the fonts I listed above, only the ones that PicMonkey has, but there are many that are super cute and will work perfectly for chalkboard printables.  I’ve even made a list below that you can use as a reference. To get started…

Go to PicMonkey.com, and select “edit photo” at the top of the page. Select the chalkboard jpg you saved from above, and it will open up on your screen. If you need to do any re-sizing, now is the time to do it, using the crop or resizing button you’ll see on the left.

Select the “T” icon on the left, and a whole list of fonts will be listed there.  Some of my favorite fonts to use for  chalkboard printable in Picasa are: Marcelle Script, Stroke Dimension, Sketch Block, Stampete, Base 05, Ostrich Sans Online, Jellyka Delicious Cake, Amatic Small Caps, Special Elite, Eraser Dust, Levitee.

Use the Text tool to select the white color (#ffffff), change the text size, and anything else you like!

Once you’re finished, SAVE YOUR WORK IMMEDIATELY.  Once you close PicMonkey, it will be gone, and you would have to create it all over again.  You can leave your browser open, and it will still be there, but I always save it before leaving, just in case.

You can totally do it!  It’s fun just to play around with it, and see what you can some up with.

  1. Thanks for sharing all your cute ideas.
By the way, have you been able to find out the name of your wall color?
    Thanks.

    1. You’re welcome! I have a painter coming next week to fix something, and I can ask when he’s here!! Thank you for reminding me. :)

  2. You know, Kierste, I just stumbled upon your site browsing around the net, but a couple of weeks back I was searching for a nice chalkboard font and couldn’t find anything. There’s some lovely creations here, well done!

  3. Oh my goodness! It is so super easy to use this! I am in love with chalkboard fonts and now I can put them in my photos before I print or upload. Super cool! Thank you so much for sharing this and for sharing PicMonkey!

  4. Hi Kierste! I just stumbled upon your website and it must’ve been fate. I totally love your style, it’s very much like my own. Thank you so much for the wonderful ideas, downloads and for being so generous. I look forward to spending a lot of time on your site! Shawne

  5. I love your site. I visit QUITE often… I do have a question though especially around printing something like this or any other chalkboard creation. Doesn’t it eat up all of your ink when you print? Do you have your stuff printed elsewhere or do you have an amazing printer?? Every time I see something with a full background of ANY solid color(s) i automatically think… wow thats like have my cartridge… am i crazy?!?

    1. Great question! If it’s something small, like a few inches, I’ll print it at home. I just have a regular printer, so nothing fancy. If it’s anything bigger than that, like my fall printable or halloween printable, I actually get it developed as a photo! I upload the jpg file to Walmart, etc., and have it printed. It also lasts a lot longer that way, so I can use it again. Thanks so much for reading!!! xoxo

  6. Hey girl, I have been wanting to make cute fliers for relief society activities and was getting pretty disappointed that all these programs were going to subscriptions (elements, photo shop, ms publisher/office). i dont want to pay for a program i dont actually get to have especially when I would only be using it a few times a year. Someone on FB mentioned picmonkey and i thought didnt my blogger online friend (since i dont know you in real life) do a tutorial about making chalkboard printables in picmonkey??? and here i am searching it out! this is exactly what i wanted and needed and whats great is they have changed things in the last few years to be able to use your own fonts! that is so stinking exciting for me! we can use fonts on our computer! so cool! thanks for making it so im not too scared to try!

    1. Yay! I’m so glad you found this tutorial! PicMonkey really is a great place for beginners (and for everyone!). I was also super excited when they made it so you could use your own fonts–it changed everything!! You can totally do it!!! Let me know how it goes, and if you have any questions. xoxo

  7. This is a great list! thank you. I haven’t been able to find the diagonal “and” you have on the list….any help on that? thanks

    1. That’s with the font Bergamot Ornaments (under the dingbats section in the post). I can’t remember which letter is the diagonal and, but it’s there! Make sure you do “shift” and the letter as well as the letter alone–there is two sets of dingbats with that font. Good lucK! Let me know if you can’t find it!
