Free Christmas card templates…plus easy tutorial!

I love receiving Christmas cards, and so does my whole family.  My kids pore over the letters and pictures, reading them over and over again throughout the season.  I also have a Christmas Memories Book, and I keep all of the cards we receive each year.  It’s so fun to look back over the years and see how our friends and family have grown and changed.

I also look forward to sending cards, and it’s a tradition that our family loves to to together.  Our Christmas card assembly line has been happening for quite a few years now, and it’s just one of the things that we love to go together.

Today I’m sharing a few fun Christmas card templates…all you have to do is add your photo, and it’s EASY and FREE to do!

You don’t have to have Photoshop or any specialty software to make your cards (although you totally can, if you have it), you just need to head over to PicMonkey.com. Upload the template of your choice, then add your picture and text.  Save it to your computer, then you can upload it directly to the photo center of your choice–or save it to a flash drive and take it in to be printed.

I’ve created step-by-step directions with photos HERE.  They are designed to be 5×7 inches, so make sure you choose that option when you are getting them printed, and preview it to make sure it’s right before you order!

Here are the templates to choose from:

Merry & Bright

Click on one of the links below, and save to your computer! You’ll need to follow slightly different directions for this card.   For Picmonkey, it’s the same tutorial as the others, but you will be uploading your family picture FIRST (edit picture).  Make sure you’ve already downloaded the Be Merry overlay image and have saved it to your computer. Then, click on the Overlay icon (the butterfly) on the left, then on the button “add your own overlay”, and browse for the be merry image.  Then you can resize it and move it to where you want it on your card!

  1. I love these! Thanks so much for creating and sharing. I usually print my at Costco, you can’t beat the price. But they have a unique size of 6 x 7.5… Will your templates work?!

    1. Yes–you just need to make a little change. Are you going to add your picture in Photoshop or Elements? Or in picmonkey like the tutorial? If you’re doing it in PS or PSE, just create your image that size, then add the design and photo. If you’re using PicMonkey–when you first get to the page, choose “Design” from the top, then “Custom”, and input the pixel size 1800 x 2250. That will give the image size you need! Good luck–let me know if you have any other questions!

      1. I’m trying to create my card in Photoshop, however I’m having trouble merging my pictures and your image (becasue it has the white background). Is there anyway to seperate the two? I love the “Be Merry” in gold!

  2. Thanks so much for these! We are doing our Christmas pictures this morning so this is perfect timing! One question~ Where do you buy your envelopes for these?
Also planning to share on my Facebook page… Hope that’s ok! www.facebook.com/puregracethreads

    Thanks!
    Katie

    1. Of course it’s okay, thank you! You can find envelopes at Staples, Office Max, or even online at Amazon!

  3. Thanks for sharing these! I was trying to download the PSD file for A Very Merry Christmas, but it’s giving me the jpg instead.

    1. So sorry! It’s all fixed now! :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B10WexqtCwpMM3RJWjduYUtPQkE/view?usp=sharing

  4. So cute and so nice of you to share! I love the cardstock look when it comes to cards. Any recommendations on where to print that isn’t too expensive?

    1. I would try Walmart (http://photos1.walmart.com/walmart/fe/stationery-cards), Shutterfly (promo code FRIENDS right now), and Snapfish (promo code 50% off: CHEER15 through the 11/15)!!

  5. Hi- I love the Be Merry Card option in gold but I just can’t seem to get it to work in Picmonkey. I followed the directions on your site but I can’t get the picture and Be Merry to merge in the Pic monkey program. Am I missing a step? I tried sending one or the other to the back ground so that the Be Merry was in the front but its still not working.. Help!

    1. Okay, I need you to do something a little different. Upload your family picture into Picmonkey (edit picture). Download the “Be Merry” image that I have added to the download list for that card. Then back to Picmonkey, and add your own overlay, adding the be merry image. You will then be able to resize it and put it where you want it on the card!! Good luck–let me know if you have any other questions!! xoxo

  6. I am trying to open the file in PICMONKEY but it says “we can’t open this kind of file”….what do I need to save it as??

    1. Which file did you download? If it was the PSD files, those are only for Photoshop and won’t open in PicMonkey. Make sure it’s the jpg files–let me know if you have any more questions!!

  7. Thank you so much Kierste for these! This is the type of thing I would normally whip up in Photoshop but my computer is down and these templates where the only thing that stopped me from just going to Target and getting a box of cards. Thank you Thank you!

    1. You are so welcome, Linda! I’m so glad I could help! I’ve so been there, and I hate when my computer goes down!! Merry Christmas! xoxo

  8. What lovely designs! It was so easy to do, and just opened up the whole afternoon for me! Thank you so much for sharing!

    1. Yes, I’m planning on it! I can’t believe it’s already time to think about Christmas cards, lol.

  9. Love your templates! When I downloaded the “be merry” overlay, it was just your profile photo in my downloads folder. Any ideas?

    1. Hi, Chelsea! Were you able to figure this out? I’m not sure if you still need this answered! I tried it on my end, and it brought up the overlay for me. When you click on the clink, and it opens in a new page, trying right clicking and saving them image directly to a folder, and see what happens.

  10. These are gorgeous– THANK YOU!! However, when I try to open them up in PS, I can’t edit any of the fonts. :( Any idea why? (Or, what fonts did you use, and I’ll just download them and retype.)

    Thanks so much, again!

    1. I’m sorry! It’s probably because you don’t have the fonts on your computer. Which card are you looking at? I can either let you know what the fonts are.

  11. I love these, they are beautiful! It’s also incredibly generous of you to make them free. Is there any chance you could tell me where you got the “Be Merry” font? I believe it is called stylish brush, but I can’t find it anywhere. Thanks :)

    1. Sure! It is called Stylish Brush, and I bought it here: https://creativemarket.com/Nickylaatz/318949-Stylish-Brush-with-Bonus

It’s one of my favorites!! xoxo

  12. THANK YOU! These are great and I was even able to use the PSD file using Keynote. It’s so kind of you to share your talents and spread joy season after season!
