Whipped Cream Cubes for Hot Chocolate

Make these simple and festive whipped cream cubes for your hot chocolate. They’re sure to be hit with family and friends, and a fun hot chocolate topping.

A couple of years ago I started having an annual hot chocolate party, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite holiday activities.  I invite friends over to enjoy yummy food, a hot chocolate bar, and lots of chatting.  It’s pretty much the perfect party for me, because I’m totally obsessed with hot chocolate.  This year I’m doing something fun, and making these super and cute Whipped Cream Cubes. They are SO easy to make, and are such a fun addition to hot chocolate.  My kids are going to love it too!

What are they, you ask? It’s whipped cream that’s been frozen, then cut into fun holiday shapes with cookie cutters. Super easy, and so fun and festive. Perfect for adding on top of your hot chocolate! I initially made these for a party, but they’re so simple, it’s easy to whip up a batch for your own family. Whether it’s for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or just because, they are sure to please.

And they’re not just for Christmas or the holidays! Even in January and February, when it’s still cold and hot chocolate weather, think fun snowflake or snowman shapes.

How to Make Whipped Cream Cubes for Hot Chocolate

They are so fun and festive, and YUMMY! And best of all, it’s a simple and quick idea that will be a hit with everyone. My kids helped me in the kitchen, and it’s a great project for little hands to help with too.

I started with a quart of heavy whipping cream, and beat it until soft peaks formed.

I added powdered sugar, and beat until combined.  Powdered sugar is my preference to sweeten the whipped cream, because often white granulated sugar will leave a slight graininess. Both will work, but if you have powdered sugar, go with that!

Once the sugar was incorporated, I placed wax paper on a cookie sheet, then spread the whipped cream on top–making sure it was at least an inch thick.  One quart of heavy whipping cream will cover the cookie sheet–almost to the edges.

Place in the freezer for 4 hours or overnight. When you take it out of the freezer, let it sit on the counter for about 5 minutes or so.  Now you’re ready for your cookie cutters! Cut out shapes from the whipped cream, and place them on another cookie sheet covered with wax paper.  When they’re all cut out, you can place them back in the freezer (cover the cookie sheet with plastic wrap) until you’re ready to use. Or…eat them right away!!

That’s it!! SO simple and adorable. My kids loved choosing their own cookie cutter and making their own, so you can really do it that way too, if you’re making them for your family.  Whether you’re prepping for a party, or just enjoying time with family and friends, these  are a must-try this holiday season!
