EASY MASON JAR SPICE CONTAINERS

03/19/2014

Oh, how I love an organized drawer!!  My spice drawer has been making me crazy lately.  They were all in there neatly on their sides, but the different sizes and round shape made everything roll around and cause chaos.  ☺ I decided that this week was time for a long and overdue makeover, and of course I turned to one of my favorite things to help me out…mason jars!  They are the perfect size to fit in the drawer, and with the cute labels on top, it’s super easy to find which spice I’m looking for. I love these Mason Jar Spice Containers!

Isn’t that lovely?  It seriously makes my heart flutter.

I used
4 oz. quilted jelly jars , so they would fit in my drawer. I also love the design–makes the spices look fancy.  ☺ If you want or need a larger size,  you could use the 8 oz. or even 12 oz size quilted jars–or just the regular jars if you prefer!

I made the labels on my Silhouette, using one of my most favorite features…print & cut! If you need a tutorial, you can check out the post I did over Christmas on making your own labels using the print & cut feature.   If you don’t have a Silhouette, you can still make them! If you know how to use Photoshop or Pic Monkey you can design them there.  Or…you can open up a Word document, create two columns, then type the text of the spices you want in the columns–about 3 to 4 inches a part, and making sure the text fits in a 2 inch space (use the grids for help).  Change color and font to your liking, then print onto a full sheet white label.  You can punch them out with a 2 inch circle punch, and it fits exactly on the mason jar lid (not wide mouth)!!!  Peel off the backing, and stick them right on!

I’m seriously in mason jar and organizational love.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this. About a year ago, I pulled my spices from my cabinet and put them in those dollar store baskets in a drawer by my stove. Worked much better, but it still kind of aggravated me that all the containers were a different size, they would still roll so I couldn’t see the label, etc. This is absolutely perfect. Thanks for the wonderful idea!

Be still, my heart! Love these. Trying to rethink it because we have no drawer for spices, only a cabinet and lazy Susan… .????

I think a lazy Susan could work—-you could use regular mason jars (not the quilted) and put the labels on the side of the jar instead!

I love this idea. I’ve been searching for jars that would all be alike and easily available. Thank you for posting this.

Its also worth mentioning a couple of other benefits to this method: make your own spice blends to have on hand for family favorite recipes, like tacos and chili. Also, this system is ready made to purchase spices in bulk, which is total win-win! Less waste, fresher spice, better value!
